Ultimate Grocery Guide

Professional nutritionist Mike Dolce from Onnit.com has put a webseries of short videos together outlining some basics to keep in mind when you are doing your grocery shopping.  These videos are short and to the point and point out some great tips that everyone should know and implement.  Check them out:

Peppers

Bell peppers of different colors provide vitamins and nutrients for a healthy well rounded diet.  All pepers are great for digestion but the hotter the pepper, the more fire for your metabolism to help your body shed excess pounds.

Asparagus

Asparagus is packed with nutrients, and is also helpful for shedding excess water weight.

Leafy Greens

The foundation of green nutrients including minerals, vitamins, fiber, for overall system health.

Fruits

Fruits are more than nature's dessert.  The are packed with vitamins and give you quick bursts of energy.

Ginger and Garlic

Ginger is a powerful digestive aid, and garlic has tons of benefits for the heart and immune system.

Electrolytes

Sea salt is packed with minerals, and bananas and dates are a great way to boost healthy sugar levels if needed.

Snacks

Chips, pretzels and snacks almost always carry with them some ingredients that will weigh you down.  Avoid if possible.

Chicken

The source of your meat is vital for peak performance.  Only eat meat without hormones, antibiotics, and naturally fed.

Red Meat

The difference between grass fed beef and corn fed, GMO laden, chemically injected beef cannot be overstated!

Fish

Not all fish is equal.  Farm raised fish is some of the worst meat for you!  Eat only natural wild caught fish!

Alcohol

It's no big secret...Booze isn't good for you.  If you must, red wine is the best of all evils, but why not have grapes instead!

Chocolate

Cacao itself is high in antioxidants and packed with nutrients.  It's the other stuff (sugar and dairy) that you need to avoid.

Soda

It doesn't matter how many organic stickers on your soda, carbonated sugar is bad for you.  Try Kombucha!

Spices

This is the proper way to achieve taste!  Spices are high in rare vitamins, minerals, and stacked with antioxidants.

Bread

In many systems, bread is the enemy...And white bread is bad.  But sprouted grain ezekiel is delicious and nutritious.

Dairy

Pasteurized, homogenized milk is stripped of the essential nutrients and enzymes, making it hard to digest.  Stick with the alternative milks, except soy.

Grains

Grains...the enemy.  Or not?  Whole, natural grains are vital for competing athletes and a staple of the Dolce Diet.

Frozen Fruits

Most frozen food is garbage.  But fruit is often flash frozen when ripe, preserving the vitamins and minerals.
