Beachbody Coaches Summit 2013

This year I attended the annual coaches Summit that Beachbody holds every year in Las Vegas.  It was my first trip to Vegas and also my first time attending a Coaches Summit.  I had heard from other coaches how important and what an impact attending Summit would have.  They were absolutely right!  It was so motivating being surrounded by over 7,000 fellow Beachbody Coaches.  We were trained by the elite coaches in the business and also exposed to the amazing motivational speaker John Maxwell.  On top of all that I also had the opportunity to meet and speak with some of the Beachbody trainers.  They announced the release of Vanilla Shakeology and also Shaun T's newest workout, Focus T25.  Summit was an experience that will stay with me forever and it has focused my drive and determination to grow my business and help as many people as possible with Beachbody.  I took all my pictures and made a video of my experience.  I hope you enjoy it and I hope you can join me next year for Summit 2014!

Body Beast Cooking

So this Monday I will be starting a new Beachbody Fitness program called Body Beast.  Body Beast is all about putting on muscle and one of the key ways to do that besides lifting a lot of heavy weights is to eat a lot of food!  But you can't just eat any food or you will gain a lot of fat along with the muscle.  Since I am still trying to lose some of my stubborn body fat I have decided to take the diet portion of this program very serious.  I went through the meal guide that came with the program and picked some of the meals that looked the best to me.

Prepping Meals and Cooking in Bulk

I wanted to highlight a system that has really benefited me in eating healthy.  To tell someone to just eat healthy meals is not enough, you must plan these meals out.  In my experience the time that I am most vulnerable to make a bad food decision is when I have nothing healthy planned out and I must quickly decide on an impulse what I am going to eat.  That is the trap that people get caught up in with fast food or even at home when they have no dinner planned and decide to throw a frozen pizza in the oven.  I usually choose Sundays as my day to cook two to three meals in bulk.  I like to pick meals that will freeze nicely and store for a good length of time.  Today I decided to make a recipe that I learned from the Ultimate Reset.  This was their take on pinto beans and rice and it is very tasty when you combine the right spices.

Insanity Day 30 Progress



Ok, so yesterday was my day 30 mark of the Insanity program and I wanted to do a little mini review to let you know how I am feeling about the program so far.  I have tried many Beachbody programs from doing 90 days of P90X at home to trying several programs at Beachbody Fit Clubs.  I have enjoyed all of them in one way or another, but Insanity has been by far my favorite!  Shaun T is an incredible motivator and pushes me to my limits and beyond for every workout.  This is both a blessing and a curse because I have been right on the edge of injury throughout this entire program.  I get so into it that I push my body too hard sometimes.  This is definitely something I try to be aware of and I noticed it after finishing Fit Test 2 and my back pain kicked in.  This program requires you to do a few things that in other programs you might not take seriously.  First, STRETCH your body out!  Don't skip, ignore, or half ass the stretching routines when they come up.  This can lead to you getting injured!  Second, COOL DOWN your body at the end of the workout so you don't get cramped up and injured.  I know by the end of the workout you want to just turn it off and go lay down for awhile, but finishing up with the cool down is crucial to avoiding injury.  The last thing I will mention is to create a safe environment to do your workouts.  I had heard all the horror stories about people injuring their knees and ankles from all the high impact moves in this workout.  I prepped my workout area with some exercise mats that I purchased at Walmart for cheap.  I also wear proper shoes and I am conscious of my form when jumping and landing as to not bang my joints.

My favorite Shakeology recipe

Shakeology has played a huge part in getting me healthy and lean and I wanted to show everyone how I make my morning shake.  I have had customers and coaches who purchase Shakeology and aren't overly crazy about the taste.  Then I find out they just mixed some water and a couple ice cubes in with it.  I find this recipe to be the best tasting one and I never get sick of it!  I love starting my day out with this stuff.

Nutrition 101


There are a few important topics that I want to discuss in this blog post.  I think that many people become overwhelmed with information about nutrition, diet, organic, GMO's, and other topics that they decide it is too big a topic to tackle. This frustration leads to them throwing in the towel and going back to their normal thinking about food and nutrition.  I want to create a starting point for people looking to investigate this topic.  There are many outlets that people can get information from whether that is the media, internet, newspaper, or other sources.  You need to think about the source and the bias that source has on any topic they are covering.  Some sources are motivated by profit and sales while others are motivated by helping people.  You will have to do your own homework and decide who you are going to believe.  I have been researching these topics for awhile and have found a few sources that I want to share with you.

Thanks Ultimate Reset!

Fit Test 2 Results

So today marks day 15 of Insanity and I took my second Fit Test.  I am happy to report that I have improved on my numbers for every movement!  Some of my gains were significant and some were minor, but the good news is I am improving and feel stronger then ever!

I took the Beachbody Challenge

When you make that decision to commit and finish a Beachbody fitness program you have the opportunity the compete in the Beachbody Challenge.  For starters, everyone who completes their program and sends in their before and after picture will get a free t-shirt to show off the fact that you did what many people haven't!  I just got mine in the mail!

Today was my first real day of Insanity and holy crap was it intense!  For starters, the warm up felt like a full workout in its self!  I had to really dig deep to bring it all the way through.  I am positive that this program is going to get me the results I want.

Post Reset Fitness Level

I was worried I would lose all my strength by not working out for 21 days while doing Beachbody's Ultimate Reset.  Beachbody instructs you to stop the intense fitness programs while you let your body detox.  So today is the first day after the reset and I figured I could use pullups as my gauge to check if I lost my strength.




Insanity Day 1 Fit Test

Damn it feels good to break a sweat again!  After 21 days on the Ultimate Reset I finally get to go back to working out.  Most people would slowly transition into something less intense after not working out for so long, but not me!  I'm going all out and pushing myself to new limits!  Today is day 1 and I started out with the fit test.  I have never done Insanity before so I don't know if my numbers are impressive, but I gave it everything I had.  Check it out:

Conclusion of The Ultimate Reset 21 Day Cleanse

Yay it's over!  I lasted 21 days on Beachbody's Ultimate Reset cleanse.  I'm not going to lie, it was tough and full of ups and downs, but overall it was an overwhelmingly positive experience!  I went into this program wanting to lose weight and learn to cook new and healthy recipes.  I accomplished this and more!  I have learned lessons during this program that I am going to keep with me for a long time.  I found out things about my body and what type of foods fuel me and how to efficient feed myself.  I realized that animal proteins aren't the end all be all and that plant proteins are a great option.  My weight fluxuated during this program and it dropped to as low as 186lbs, but by the end I was 188lbs and 16 pounds lighter then when I started.

There are many recipes online for "healthy" brownies.  This is one that I have personally tried several times and it is always a big hit!  If you have someone that may be skeptical about these, make them in secrecy and pass them off as real brownies and see if they pass the test.

Getting my home gym ready for Insanity

On Monday I will be starting up my next Beachbody program.  So far I have experience with P90X and The Ultimate Reset...next in line is Insanity!  I had some fitness mats that I had laid out on the floor that I used during plyometrics in P90X, but they always slid all over the place.  I didn't want that to happen with Insanity so I bought some wide Gorilla tape and taped them to the floor so they won't slide.  I just wanted to give you guys a sneak peak of my hard work.  Check it out:



The Ultimate Reset Day 20

This program is almost done!!  Today I woke up and my weight has gone up for the first time in the program.  I increased my portion sizes yesterday and it jumped me back up to 187lbs, but I don't care.  I feel much better and I went with the larger portion sizes again today.

The Ultimate Reset Day 19

After what happened yesterday I decided that today I would try increasing the portion sizes of my meals.  First thing I did was weigh in and I was 186lbs.  That puts me at 18lbs lost so far.  I have a feeling that number is going to go up because I plan on eating more and getting more calories in me so I don't feel light headed.

The Ultimate Reset Review

So today is day 19 and I am nearly finished with my Beachbody Ultimate Reset experience.  I had some free time and wanted to give a recap about the last 19 days and also give people a clear idea of how the program works.  Also I wanted to share some personal information about how I have been responding this last week.  I had a scary moment happen last night where I got up off the couch and took a couple steps and then passed out.  I have never had that happen to me before and it was pretty scary.  I realized that I have been probably eating at too much of a calorie deficit and that I need to increase my portion sizes and also re-introduce more grains to my meals.  Here is my video talking about the last 19 days:

Today the scale read 187lbs so I'm still staying steady at that weight.  I'm really looking forward to finishing up this program because I'm ready to add some different variety to my diet.  So far I'm not overly enthusiastic about phase three.  The elimination of grains and legumes is making these meals less appealing.  Today's dinner for example was cauliflower and kale...not so exciting.

The Ultimate Reset Day 15

Today was a very hectic day and unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to take pictures of lunch or dinner.  On a more positive note, I weighed in at 187lbs this morning down from 189lbs yesterday.  Today marked the first day of the final phase of the Ultimate Reset.  Phase 3 is called Restore and this week will eliminate grains and legumes to focus on a simple, cleansing, fruit and vegetable based diet.  The portions of vegetables will increase due to the lack of grains.  All of the breakfasts will be fruit plates from this point on.

The Ultimate Reset Day 13

I was shocked this morning when the scale read 189lbs. Yesterday's weight was 192lb and I wasn't expecting a drop like that! This program is proving its effectiveness daily.  Since starting the Beachbody programs I have lost 36lbs and I went from wearing 38 size pants to now wearing much smaller.  In honesty I'm not sure what my pant size is because I'm still wearing my 36 pants with a belt:

Today's weight revealed only a slight loss of 0.2lbs after getting on the scale.  I'm okay with that, I think my body is getting really close to that base line weight of where I would be if I maintained a healthy diet and wasn't working out to put on size.

So another day and another pound lost.  I weighed in at 193lbs putting my total weight loss at 11 pounds since starting the Beachbody Ultimate Reset.  I'm thinking the weightloss is going to slow down, but I don't know when.  I am going to shoot for losing 20lbs by the end of the program.

The Ultimate Reset Day 8

I was in shock this morning when I got on the scale and the number read 194lbs.  I just keep steadily losing weight on this program.  I have lost a total of 10 pounds already and I'm not even half way done!  I don't expect the number to keep moving down at this rate, but I will take it while I can.

So today marks day 1 of phase 2 called Release.  During the Release phase, I will be completely eliminating animal products, including dairy, eggs, and meat.  I will move into a more vegetable, fruit, and whole-grain based diet.  Every breakfast will include fresh fruit and I am to avoid eating more then 3 servings so I won't be taking in too much sugar.  I am also introduced to a new supplement called Detox.  The Detox helps remove toxins and waste in the colon, according to the book that came with the Ultimate Reset.  I'm not sure what they put in it, but it must work very gently because I have not had to run to the bathroom without warning at all today.  Hope I'm not venturing into the "Too Much Information" territory, but I'm just trying to give everyone an idea on what my experience is like on this program.  Yours may be different.

Today is a special day for me because it marks my day 90 of doing Beachbody programs.  I started my Beachbody journey on January 21st with P90X and Shakeology.  I was hoping to lose at least 20 pounds during those 90 days, but after weighing in this morning at 195lbs it looks like I crushed that goal!

So today is day 5 on the Ultimate Reset and my weigh in this morning revealed no weight loss.  I am still at 198lbs down from 204lbs at the start.  Today was a little bit of a challenge because I was running around town taking care of things.  I didn't get time to eat my snack in between lunch and dinner and I was definitely hungry by the time dinner rolled around.

So more good news to report from the scale - I am down to 198lbs.  Another day and another pound lost!  I'm feeling good about the routine and now I'm just looking forward to cooking and trying things I have never tried.

Today's breakfast was super easy and super tasty.  A plate of fresh fruit with some plain yogurt sweetend with maple syrup in the middle.  Who wouldn't enjoy this?  I forgot how much I love kiwis too!

The Ultimate Reset Day 2

Today I woke up and the first thing I did was hop on the scale.  Yesterdays starting weight was 204lbs and today's was 201lbs!  Three pounds down after the first day...sounds good to me!  After that I drank a big glass of water and started making my breakfast.

The Ultimate Reset Day 1

After finishing my 90 day program with P90X and Shakeology I had a lot of options for what program I wanted to try next.  Between Insanity and Body Beast and all the other fitness programs I had a hard time deciding.  In the end though my decision didn't lead me to another fitness program.  Instead I chose Beachbody's 21 Day Cleanse called The Ultimate Reset.  I know that nutrition plays such a huge part in getting fit and healthy.  I can workout till I'm drenched in sweat, but if I'm not fueling my body with the right things then it is all in vain.  Now I have learned a lot already about eating healthy and the addition of Shakeology was a game changer in my results, but I still have much to learn when it comes to eating right.  I have never been one who is afraid to get in the kitchen and cook up some good food.  I just need to be inspired and have a recipe and the instructions laid out for me.  That is where the Ultimate Reset is so amazing.  It lays out every meal and snack for the next 21 days for me.  In addition, I will be taking some supplements that are going to help me with detoxifying my body through a gentle cleanse.  No running to the toilet here!

Shakeology - Highlighted Ingredient of the week: Chia Seed

The Importance Of The Three Elements

This week I would like to highlight an amazing superfood ingredient found in Shakeology called Camu-Camu.  If I were to ask you to name a fruit that is high in Vitamin C I think the most common response would be that of an Orange.  Well what if I told you that there is a superfood out there that has 56 times the Vitamin C of an Orange!!  I couldn't believe it until I did the research myself.
